can't paste web text into Word

M

markdes

I went to an Arabic web site using Firefox, copied some arabic text,
opened Word and pulled down the edit menu and the paste function was
greyed out. This also happened with Safari. I don't understand...is
it because it is Arabic text? I could open TextPad and paste into it
fine so I know it was in the clipboard and that another program could
do it properly.

thanks,
Mark

It seems to be a bit patchy. Mac OS X can't do right-to-left properly, so
whatever you paste will be transposed unless you paste into an application
that does its own RTL support. , which would make Arabic very hard to read
:)

I managed to paste some Arabic pages from CNN OK. However, from the
following page is a problem:
http://www.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/4C5742A6-DC07-48C5-9AC3-C2C02A3CA9D7.htm

Depending upon what you select, it will paste from Safari into Word and
TextEdit (transposed left to right, of course) but it won't paste from
FireFox into Word. It will into Entourage :)

Hi,

Copy and paste seems to work differently for me with different browsers.
I get the best results from OmniWeb and Shiira web browsers.

Hi Mark,

Simialr to John's experience, I can repro this behavior with Camino and
Firefox although it doesn't occur with Safari.

I have reported this issue. Until this behavior is fixed, may I suggest
using Safari for copying Arabic text so that you can successfully paste it
into Word.

Thanks,
