can't print with just black ink cartridge

I am trying to print a document on word using just my black ink
cartridge on plain paper, but under my printer settings for Word I am
not allowed to select these which is strange because other programs
that I print things off of allow me to print like that. I used to be
able to print with just my black ink cartridge and then this happened.
Is there an update I can get or a way I can change that?

This is a setting in your Macintosh printer driver.

Go to File>Print, choose the ColorSynch options and set the Quartz Filter to
Black and White.

Cheers

In order for anyone to offer anything meaningful you need to provide:

Office version (specific)
OS X version (specific)
Where, exactly, are you looking? Word has no Print Prefs that control color.
What, exactly, are you seeing when you go there?
What has changed since you were able to do what you want to do?

We have nothing more to go on than what you supply:)
