can't read .pps file

I keep my PowerPoint updated with all the latest updates.. I'm trying to view
two different .pps files downloaded off a webpage for a college class I
attend. For both files I get the same error, "can't read .pps file". I've
saved them and tried opening them on another computer and get the same error.
I can't believe the files are messed up since the professor is requiring us
to use them as our resource material. I've got an exam tonight too so I'm in
a pinch. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Have you tried downloading them again? (Maybe a bad transfer???)

I guess I should have given more information.
I've tried opening the .pps files by just clicking on them.
I've also tried changing their extension to .ppt and opening them with
either PowerPoint 2000 and PowerPoint 2003 or even the PowerPoint Viewer. No
luck.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, I've downloaded them twice each. One is just over 8 megs and the other
is over 70 megs

Hi,Scott.
PPS are PowerPoint (Slide)Show files, that is they always open as a
slide show from Windows Explorer.
Unlike regular PPT files they lack some features, such as
the ability to embed a specific Truetype font you may want to use.
Maybe you can try to open it with your IE.
Hope this would help.

Simmon,

At least you are consistently wrong. There is no difference at all in the
two files other than the name of the extension.
