Can't Remove One of Multiple Personal Folders

Background - I am running Outlook 2000 IMO (9.0.0.2711) on WinXP, SP2. I have
upgraded this machine several times and I'm certain that in uninstalling and
reinstalling Outlook, this occurred. I haven't used Outlook on this machine
for some time and am returning to it.

Specifics - Outlook displays a single Outlook Today folder and a separate
Personal Folder. I want to remove the 2nd PF as it is redundant.

Attempted Fix - When I have attempted to right click on it and Close it, I
receive the error: The Operation Failed. An object could not be found. When I
researched this I was referred to Article ID: 292022, which essentially said
that I either had an invalid Personal Folder service pointer to a .pst or my
folder list had been damaged. I have assumed the latter, since I can
otherwise access the .pst. The resolution went on to give me some relatively
specific instructions about deleting a key inside of
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Messaging
Subsystem\Profiles\Microsoft Outlook Internet Settings\.

Current Situation - I looked inside the key and I have 8 different keys,
although the first is the most recently modified (I can tell because of the
..pst archive I performed). What is not clear is what to delete. I tried
deleting the entire key and that only results in Outlook not starting at all.
I restored it and have attempted to delete individual keys that reference the
..pst, but the 2nd PF is still there. Do I need to archive (or export)
everything, create a new .pst and import the data?

Please reply if you need add'l specifics.

TIA,

Mickey

It sounds like you're on the right track, and you'd have to delete the
individual key and it's sometimes difficult to figure out which one it is.
If you were using a later version of Outlook or you were in CW mode instead
of IMO, you could just create a new profile to fix this...but alas, no
profiles in IMO mode.

See if the following Slipstick article helps at all (look at the last
section on the page):

No need to ask more than once.

Jocelyn,

Thanks. There was an old key pointing to an old user profile and a
corresponding personal folder. It took some trial and error, but I got it
working.
