Can't save a Word document

All of a sudden I can't save any documents in Word. I get
the error message "Word cannot complete the save due to a
file permission error."
When I try to exit, I get the same message that it can't
save normal.dot.
If I try to open a previously created Word .doc it tells
me it's being used by another user.
Other user accounts on the PC can use Word without a
problem. And other Office applications work fine. It's
just Word for one user account. (Using XP.)

Are you using Norton Anti Virus? If so, open NAV and disable the Office
Plug-in option.

Nahhhh... it's not NAV. I'd seen that possible reason
posted further down the newsgroup... :-(

And it's only failing in this way for one user... all the
rest are fine, and all the other MS Office apps are fine
for this user. It's just Word which fails with this error.

I've also trawled through the http://word.mvps.org/ but
still not found any likely causes. So any other
suggestions would be most welcome.

Cheers, Russ.

Start Word in safe mode by using Start, Run and typing in

winword /a

and pressing enter. Are you able to create and save a test document in safe
mode?
