I've found that those alt.whatever newsgroups are often filled with spam and
....well, crap. The microsoft.public.whatever newsgroups are your best source
of information.

You didn't trouble me at all - and I'm glad that your problem was resolved.

Many thanks! I did look through the posts but I was in the
alt.comp.microsoft.office and there wasn't anything there about this. I
was so anxious to get a fix up that I skimmed the posts in this group. I
see now that there are literally SCADS!
I was able to resurrect my Office, but only after losing an important
university assignment that my son typed in the early hours this morning
and couldn't save. He was very cross! I also wasted about 2 hours trying
to solve it by rebooting, reinstalling, repairing.
Sorry to have troubled you. But please know that MVPs are very
appreciated!

Jenny,

Since early last week there have been SCADS of people with the problem
posting in this, and many other, newsgroups. I'm surprised you didn't see
them.

You may experience problems in Windows Explorer or in the Windows shell
after you install security update MS06-015
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=918165

If you have an HP camera, scanner, or printer with a built-in card
reader, head on over to Kelly's Korner,
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and scroll down to Item
No. 383 "Hewlett-Packard's Share-to-Web software - Fix (MS06-015)" to
download a simple registry fix. Note: You may need to temporarily disable
your antivirus program in order to safely run the scripted fix.

(I have a friend who had to do this. It took her a few minutes and it is
now as good as ever. She is *not* a guru and she said it was very easy.)

Hi there
Wondering if anyoen else has had this problem Since this morning, I
can't save in any of the Office programs. Click on Save, it just hangs.
Have rebooted, and re-installed XP. Tried in all office programs, same
deal.

Someone else posted same problem in alt.comp.microsoft office but no
reply so far.

Can anyone please help?
