can't save file to CD

Trying to save a file to CD and the following message
comes up:
"Word cannot save or create this file. Make sure that
the disk you want to save the file to is not full, write
protected or damaged."

The disk is brand new, help!

Don't ever try to save directly from Word to any form of removable media.
Save to the HD, then copy to the floppy, CD, etc.
