Can't Save Messages as Doc File

I'm using the Trial edition of Office 2003 (and have not installed the real
edition yet). I have set outlook to use Word and my email editor but I
cannot save files as Doc files. Is the save at type box the only ones listed
are html, txt, msg, and oft. Can't find any help anywhere on Microsoft
support for this problem.
