Can't save my files on external/optical unit

Hi,

Why can't I simply save my files directly on my cd-r?

I must now save my files at c:\ and THEN transfer them to the e:\ unit.

I thought the e:\ unit should be as easy to store files on as the good old
floppy!

(I've nerver worked with a cd-r before, which explains this stupid but
necessary question).

And you never should have saved directly to that good old floppy either.
