Can't save .pptx as .ppt

Processor: Intel

Every time I try to save a PowerPoint 2008 presentation (.pptx) as a PowerPoint 2004 presentation (.ppt), the program crashes and an automatic message is sent to Microsoft. This is a drag and it's also preventing me from sharing .pptx files with the vast majority of my world that can't open them! What's up with this and how can I fix it!

Does the file contain any PDFs? There is currently an unresolved bug
introduced by the 12.1.2 update. If there are any PDFs save them out as or
obtain them in another graphics file format. Replace the PDFs with the new
versions & you should be OK.

BTW - anyone using Office 2000 or later on the PC or Office X or later on
the Mac who can't open .pptx files most likely has nobody to blame but
themselves. Converters are available [Free] on both sides if those folks
would just take the few minutes required to download & install them :)
