Can't see non-LAN Groove users

K

Kev

After a system failure I've just re-installed Groove 2007. I'm happily
downloading workspaces and I see (as online) people on the same LAN as me.
However, the other users on the LAN only see me briefly before I disappear.
However, I cannot see any users outside of my LAN although I know they are
there due to my collegues being able to see them.

I appear to be able to send messages out but they get stuck at the relay
server (i.e. I get sent but not delivered messages) and whilst I'm
downloading workspaces I don't appear to be getting any updates.

I'd appreciate any thoughts on this or any ways I can validate what is
actually happening.

Many thanks,
Kev

Having moved to a number of different networks to try and isolate the issue
things have just got even more strange. What happens now is that users on the
both the local LAN and outside of the LAN seem to randomly appear and
disappear. They can appear in my groove session and a collegues, then
disappear from mine for a few minutes whilst still showing in a collegues,
then for no apparent reason they just return.

Messages that I've sent them when they were offline also don't appear to
have been delivered even when they show as online. I can only get a message
delivered if I send it whilst the person is showing online.

About the only diagnostic I have left is to try a different relay server but
I don't know if I can chaange it.

Hello Kev,

I was out last Thursday and Friday, so I have just seen this. Would you
please tell me what Relay server you are using? I can have the maintainers
check into it. (And no, there's no way to change your relay server from the
client.)

To find your Relay server, from the Options menu, open Communications
Manager, and then click Network Settings. You will have one or more entries
that say "Relay Server URL". Reply with the values of those entries.

No problem. I'm still not convinced whether its a server or a client problem.

Here is the relay server information (plus a few other bits that may be
helpful) for my machine:
grooveDNS://blugro2relay.groove.microsoft.com
Home GMS URL http://blugro2gms.groove.microsoft.com/gms.dll
Relay Server URL grooveDNS://blugro2relay.groove.microsoft.com
Windows Firewall Status Exception for Groove is enabled

I hope this information is useful and appreciate you taking a look.

Regards,
Kev

You are not using the same relay (or even relay cluster) as Carlos, and
between that and the intermittent LAN connectivity, I suspect this is an
issue on the client.

Did you restore the account from a backup file that might have been a bit
old? If so, you might have a problem with your vcard sequence number. See the
information here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922168.

(In this case, the problem can appear without your account being active on
another computer -- the installation that failed is a currently inactive
instance of your account. If the procedures in 922168 help you resolve the
issue, you should also delete the failed instance of the computer from the
computers associated with your account.)

Aha - That appears to have solved the problem.

After the crash when I re-installed Groove I used my original account backup
file - the same file that I had used for the first installation of Groove
2007. This obviously set the version numbers out of sync.

Very many thanks for identifying the problem - I would have gone round in
circles for months as my next step would have been re-install Groove and try
again.

Once again my sincere thanks.
