Can't see notes in Presenter View

T

Tom Carpenter

I can see my notes just fine in the edit mode, and I have correctly set up
the show to have Presenter Mode on my laptop (with the display view going to
the external monitor). When I click View Show, my laptop goes into the
Presenter screen mode, but the note area is blank.

Any suggestions for troubleshooting this?

Thanks!

Are your notes in the placeholder in Notes View (that is, where it says
"click to add text," or are they in a regular "manual" textbox?

Thanks - I'll double check that. This ppt is one I got from someone else and
then I added a few slides with my own notes. I can see mu new notes on the
slides I added but not his original ones. At a glance I can't see any
difference between the form or format but I'll check what you said.

Hello again Echo,

I checked and they are all the same - both the few that I can see and the
rest that I cannot see. They appear to be in the placeholder - if I
right-click on the border around the notes, it has an item to "format
placeholder" so I assume that means I'm in it. I don't see anything different
in formatiing either (no background, etc.)

Wow, I don't know, then.

If you want to send me a presentation with a few sample slides -- some that
work and some that don't (not a huge file, please!), I'm happy to take a
look here. Please copy the body of these posts into the email so I remember
what I'm looking at and also please note the version of PPT you're using.
email is echos at indy dot net.

The slides show up in Presenter View, right? Just not the speaker notes?

Tom C,

Are you using PowerPoint 2003?

Do you know if the ppt has been *edited* on PowerPoint 2007? Are the "Page
numbers" on the "Notes pages" selectable?

Then... run the macro on a copy of your presentation...

Correct the order of shapes on Notes Pages. Fix disappearing notes in
presenter view.

AWESOME! Thank you guys so much for helping me -- the VB macro did the trick.
This was indeed - as one of you suspected - a ppt that has been passed around
here, and somone had done some editing in 2007, but I'm still on 2003. So
problem & mystery solved.

What would us mere mortals do without the gods!

Best Regards, and Thanks Again!!

I think we ran into something like this before. If memory serves, presentation
view ahem ASSumes that the name of the notes placeholder shape will be whatever it
was when the notes page was created.

If the notes placeholder has been deleted or in some cases if the presentation's
been through several versions of PPT, the name will be different; presenter view
won't show it.

And ooohlordylordy, looka here. We even have a FAQ page about it. With a little
macro that'll repair the problem:

Correct the order of shapes on Notes Pages. Fix disappearing notes in presenter
view.
