Can't see thumbnails or previews of jpegs, etc

T

TerryM

Hi,

I recently upgraded to Office 2003 on my OS 2000 and can no longer view any
of my photos as thumbnails or previews. I searched here and found a few
answers, but they are too technical for me, as they suggest tweaking the
registry.

Can someone walk me though this?

Thanks,
Terry

Hi -

Was this the knowlegebase you saw?
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q192573

This is actually a Windows issue, not an Office one, and this is the only
fix I am aware of.
If you aren't comfortable editing the registry (which is wise if you are not
very sure of what you're doing), see if you can get a more tech-savvy friend
to help you out. And do a backup/export of your whole registry first.

If you had Windows XP I'd recommend creating a restore point first - but
alas, you're still on 2k, so that isn't an option.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
No, I read a different knowledge base thingie that I found by Googling. The
problem goes beyond Explorer. No matter what I use to open up graphic files,
I can't see thumbnails *or* previews. The page I found said it was due to
upgrading to Office 2003- that it automatically removes Photo Editor and
thus, there are no associations of files, or whatever.

I am terrified of messing with the registry, so that isn't an option. I did
try re-loading Office but wasn't sure how to find just Photo Editor.
