Can't select text in Outlook 2007 Win7

Outlook 2007 and Windows 7:

Can't use the mouse to select text in new email messages. (Mouse select
works in Word 2007 and MSIE8.)

I did a clean install of Windows 7 and then installed Office 2007. (The
mouse-select worked fine before with Vista and Office 2007.)
