DNelson

Can someone please explain why I cannot send or receive in Outlook 2002 but
receiving works just fine in OE6 however, I cannot send in either
program---it tells me to check my settings which are correct?? The settings
are the same in both programs, I have updated Outlook 2002 but still cannot
get Outlook to function. Please be very specific in any solutions to this
dilemma!! Thanks....Debbie

Are you using an antivirus scanner to scan outgoing mail? If so, which one?
Does either program work if you disable scanning?

What type of account do you have and are you getting any errors in Outlook?

I am not using any antivirus scanner unless it is automatic within Windows 98
which is my operating program. I have a pop3 account through Earthlink.net
and get no errors in Outlook 2002 it just doesn't send or receive---no
progress window---nothing. When I try to send in Outlook Express 6 the error
is as follows:

"The message could not be sent. You do not have any account configured for
sending email. Please verify your account settings."

The accounts are configured to send and I have rechecked all the settings. I
just have no idea what to do about this! Thanks....Debbie

OE and OL do not share settings. You must set up the accounts again in
Outlook. Make sure you are using POP-SMTP mail servers, not web mail. Get the
correct server settings from your ISP.

Diane Poremsky [MVP]

for outlook go to Control panel, mail and create another profile. Don't copy
the old one - make a new one. Enter all of the server names etc and see if
it works.

Both OE 6 and OL2002 have been set up separately. Settings are correct. In
testing the settings everything checks out, but only OE receives the test
email.....any suggestions??

Dear Diane,
I removed all accounts in Outlook 2002, went to the Control Panel--Mail--Set
up a new account and Outlook still does not send or receive. In testing the
mail settings all processes check off and are successful, but I do not even
receive the test email in my Outlook mailbox, but do receive it in the
Outlook Express. What now??? Thanks...Debbie

Debbie, have you double-checked your outgoing settings
with earthlink.net? A week or so ago I learned quite by
accident (my outgoing messages went nowhere) that
Earthlink had changed their outgoing server settings to
require authentication, so instead of "smtp" in my
outgoing settings, I now have "smtpauth".

Unfortunately, Outlook 2002 does not save my passworde,
so I have to go to Tools/Accounts/Add or Change and enter
the passwords every time I open Outlook. As long as I
keep Outlook open (even minimized) the passwords are
retained, but as soon as I close Outlook I have to go
through the password procedure again.

Wish I could, Debbie! When you go into
Tools/Accounts/View or Change and enter your password, do
you then go to "More Settings" and make sure your
Outgoing Server settings also show your password? Even
though my settings to "Remember Password" are checked for
both incoming and outgoing, Outlook does not, in fact,
save the passwords.

Sorry, but that's the only thing I can suggest. Wish
someone could help me make the system retain my
passwords! Good luck...

What happens when you try to send or receive? Do you get an error message?
If so, what is the text of the message?

Dear Jeff,
When I click "Send/Receive" I get nothing....no progress window, no mail,
nothing!! Can I reinstall Outlook over the existing program to correct this
or do I have to remove the original Outlook and reinstall?? Thanks....Debbie

Jakki

I have the same problem with the 2003 version of Outlook it will send my
email but will not collect my emails from my ispa and place them into
outlook. I have checked all setting and have done numerous 'test account
settings' test and everything is ticked to say all is running smoothly but as
soon as i click send/receive it sends them but still not receiving e-mails.
Did you have any joy in solving your problem because it sounds the
same!!!!!!!!

Thanks and regards

DNelson

Dear Jakki,
Nope...no solutions to this problem. I am waiting to hear about the
reinstallation question. Luckily, I can send & receive through Outlook
Express but that is not the program I prefer to use.....Debbie
