Can't sync - "another identity is open"

Well, I just installed Office 2004 and am still having thee same
problem syncing Entourageas I had using Office X. I've tried various
things to fix it, and nothing works. When I try to sync, I get the
error log:

Sync starting at 30 Oct 2004 02:42 PM on USB
HotSync Failure: The Entourage identity "Main Identity" could not be
opened because another identity is open in another Office application.

When I installed Office 2004, I ran the uninstaller from the CD which
removed Office X as well as older versions I had installed on my OS 9
drive, just to make sure nothing else was there. Still no good. So I
restarted, and ran the uninstaller again, & it found what it says is an
Entourage X preference file, which I removed. Then when I tried to
sync, the Entourage conduit wouldn't open at all. I tired syncing
anyway, and this message was given:

Failed Entourage Conduit (0xffffffff)
Sync completed successfully at 30 Oct 2004 02:42 PM

I tried removing all syncing preferences, and then got the following
message whan I tried to sync:

Before you can synchronize with the applications on this handheld
device, you must enable synchronization in the Entourage Conduit
Settings dialog box. For the latest information on compatibility issues
and solutions, visit the Office 2004 Web Site
Failed Entourage Conduit (0xffffffff)

So I tried to open the conduits, and got the following:

Could not open the selected identity. Quit all open Microsoft Office
programs and try again.

It seems there is another identity open somewhere, but I have no idea
where it is, or that the conduit just isn't working. I tried
reinstalling it from the CD, still no good.

I running OS 10.2.8 and am using a Tungsten E with Palm 5, Palm desktop
4.1 and the latest Missing Sync software. If anyone can offer any idea
of what to do next I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Jackie
