Whenever I start Frontpage 2002, I get the following error message:

Error 1324: The folder path 'Program Files' contains an invalid character.

I have Office XP installed on my D: Drive. Other programs installed in the
same Program Files directory seem to work fine. This error appears when I
start FP. The primary screen will appear after I "Cancel" several "Install
Frontpage" Dialogs appear. If I don't cancel, I get an install dialog and
then I get the same error message. I have tried to uninstall FP and I get
the same error message. I have tried to "Repair" FP and I get the same error
message.

On my C: Drive, something is creating a directory "microsoft frontpage"
under my C: Drive 'Program Files'. I can't delete this directory in normal
mode but I did go into Safe Mode and renamed it. Another one was created.

I go into Control Panel and try to uninstall and I get the same error
message. I try to repair I get the same error message. I try it install
directly from the CD and I get the same error message.

Everything was working fine a week ago. I even tried a System Restore from
last week. That didn't fix the problem either.

I am "GUESSING' the I might have to a manual uninstall. If you folks out
there AGREE, can you point me to manual uninstall instructions.

HELP!!!!

Thanks...

Bruce

Go here: http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm and download and install the free Reg Seeker utility.
Run it and under the Histories section, run the CleanStreamMRU/StreamKeys feature and the Open
Files feature.

You also might want to run the registry cleaner. It will fin d alot of junk. ( and I mean a lot )

Make sure you have it set to create backups.

fwiw, it's a tool I run about once a month on all of my machines.

Steve:

You didn't state it but is this the tool I need to remove the "Error 1324:
The folder path 'Program Files' contains an invalid character" problem. Or
is it a tool that will just clean up a lot of junk?

Thanks...

Okay, Steve. I ran RegSeeker with the option of "Clean the Registry." There
were 1495 entries found. Now, what do I do? Just delete all of them? "File
or Path does not exits" seems pretty safe, but some of the others? Need some
help here. Thanks...

Thanks for the URL to fix the problem. Now, when I find entries in my
registry, they are "Pointing" to a CD drive
(G:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~1\Office10\FRONTPG.EXE) which is a problem. Should I
delete the "COMPLETE" entry, starting with the CID
{388ED915-7FD2-11D0-A60B-00A0C90A43CE}?

Yes, delete everything it finds.
Make sure it is set to create a backup.

Yup.
Make sure you have Reg Seeker set to create a backup file.

When it's done, reboot the machine.

Steve:

Thank you.. My FrontPage is back up and running. After running RegSeeker, I
didn't even have to reinstall FP.

I had "Hoped" it would fix another problem I have namely, my network ain't
working right.. My desktop had network access to my laptop, but my laptop
tells me I don't have permission to access my desktop. I've spent a month
on. Circuit City's PC repair couldn't fix it.. It's a real bummer. I'm
almost to the place where I'm going to reinstall XP on my Laptop. If that
don't work, I'll have reinstall XP on my desktop. Not Fun..

Thanks again.

Bruce

You have to add the "user name" of the laptop as a user in XP on the Desktop.
