Publisher 2000 will not "Save" or "Save AS" and says MS Publisher not Responding.

I have used Publisher over the years many times. Never had a problem until now. If I "save" or try to "save as" it just sits there and leaves a message that MSPublisher is not responding. I've updated all my spyware, malware, and the machine says it's all fine. I've uninstalled and re-installed, repaired and/or fixed and still get the same outcome. I do not have a problem creating the files in Publisher and I can print them....itg just won't let me save them. I can also open any file in have previously saved in Publisher without any problems. MSWord works just fine and saves just fine as does the rest of the programs in Office 2000. I tried downloading Windows updates for publisher 2000 but it says the file does not exist. Kinda frustrating.
