I recently reinstalled XP and since then I haven't been able to update my web
site through FrontPage. I normally make all the changes, then click publish
web and it does it all. Now it goes through the motions of this, but is very
quick and no changes are made, no information is actually being sent. Windows
Firewall isn't even on, so what's the problem?

Whenever you install, re-install or upgrade FP, you need to do complete publish before making any
changes, then you can use the Change Page Only Option.

Hi Thomas

I am wondering about your response to Paul where you said "you need to do
complete publish". Are you saying that the local copy needs to be completely
republished after an install/re-install of FrontPage? If that is the case
what is the reason for that? I thought that FP compared both copies (local
and server) to see what had changed. I'm not disputing your response. I was
just curious.

Thanks
Jeff

It does compare when publishing, however the registry and all of the hidden indexes need to be
update/recreated, etc.

The publish can be in either direction, but best to do from live/remote back to local (requires FP
extensions on live/remote).

Thanks for the response, unfortunately Idon;t think it will help. FP already
did the complete upload the first time I tried to update things, but it still
won't make new changes.

Can you load your web in FrontPage that is on the web server? One other
question that I have and this depends on what version of FP you have. If you
have 2003 after you choose "Publish Site" it will tell you which pages have
been changed, which are unchanged and which have conflicts compared to the
server version. Is FrontPage recognizing the changes to the pages that you
are changing?

I'm not sure what you mean about loading the web in FP that's on thew server.
My web is stored locally and I make changes then update to the web server. FP
version is 2002 - XP. It normally just updates the changed pages and, as you
say, it appears not to be recognising the changes as it is not updating
anything, but is going through the normal routine.

It's been a while since I've use FP2002 and I can't remember how the
interface is designed. I am however sure that you can view the server copy
of your web in FrontPage 2002. When I say view I mean it in the sense of the
same way you do when you look at your local copy......files, folders,
navigation structure, ect, ect..... You can do that the same way you open a
local copy of your web but use http://yourweb.com instead. In FP 2003 when
I choose the publish site command from the fie menu I am asked for the
username/password and after authentication has completed there is a split
screen. The left side shows the file/folder structure of the local web and
the right side shows the server files and folders. From there I can see
which pages will be published because they will have a status of "Changed"
in the Status Column.
