Can't Upgrade Office Mac Student Edition

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Email Client: Exchange I am running Office Mac 2008 Home & Student Edition.

I need exchange support so I bought an upgrade to Office for Mac 2008 Business Edition.

I downloaded the software but when I tried to install it I keep getting an error, "Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac cannot be installed on this disk. A newer version of Microsoft Office for Mac is already installed."

Your issue is not exactly clear. Did you buy the upgrade to the Business
Edition, or did you buy the full version? You *cannot* use the upgrade
version to move from the Home & Student Edition to the Business Edition.
You will need an earlier version of Office (Office 2004 or earlier) to
qualify for the upgrade version.

If, however, you have the full version, then you might want to consider
using the Remove Office tool (which you can find in
Applications/Microsoft Office 2008/Additional Tools/Remove Office) to
remove the Home & Student Edition prior to installing the Business Edition.

I bought the upgrade. I did not know that you can't upgrade from 2008.

I just need exchange 2007 for entourage.

Thanks

I bought the upgrade. I did not know that you can't upgrade from 2008.

If you had any previous version of Office, you can simply insert the install
CD and point to it to use the upgrade version.
I just need exchange 2007 for entourage.

No copy of Office 2008 contains Exchange 2007. That's totally separate
software for the server.

I have the same problem and have now purchased a full copy of Business Edition and am prepared to unistall the Home / Student Edition BUT ONLY IF I WON"T LOSE EMAILS, CONTACTS, MEETING DATA ETC. When I remove the old edition will the "data" remain and be "seen" by the Business Edition of Office when I install it?

It should not be touched but whenever you do an install it's prudent to
make a backup.
