Cant view and then send email from the outbox in Outlook 2000

Outlook 2000: Everything was fine and then recently, I can create email and
send it from any folder EXCEPT the outbox. If I open the outbox BEFORE
sending, the unsent email goes from italicized to bold and it will not send.
If I do "send/receive" before I go into the outbox the same mail gets sent
and transfers to the sent folder. Any thoughts as to why this is suddenly
happening?
