can't view pictures in word 2002

We are running office xp on mostly office 2000 (& a few
later machines on XP). We are developing a routine
whereby data is extracted from the erp system into an rtf
file, then using commands to effect 'insert picture /
from file / link to file / insert' we have a product
image next to the relevant data. We then open the rtf in
word and issue the document.

Our problem is we can only view some of the images: all
the rgb type jpg's simply appear as a white box with red
cross (in a 7cm+ box); the cmyk type jpg's either appear
partially, having effectively been re-sized to 5.76cm
wide, appear perfectly as intended, or fail to appear as
per the rbg jpgs. I have tried gif images, but they also
fail to appear.

All the jpgs have a width of between 1.84cm to 1.86 cm to
comply with the desired document format.

I can see no pattern to those which appear, and those
which do not. When I sent a sample to our erp programmer
to investiagte i copied a line from the rtf opened in
word containing a cmyk jpg which had been enlarged -
when i pasted it into my email (word set as defualt
editor) it appeared perfectly, resized again as 1.85cm.
AAAAGhhhhh!!! - what is going on & how do i cure it????

I have tried re-setting the default programme which opens
jpgs to IE / Acrobat / word, and back again to ms
photoshop as default - all without success. Running this
process on a 2000 or xp machine also makes no difference.

All help much appreciated!

Trevor

G'day "Trevor Humphreys" <[email protected]>,

I am thinking this problem has to do with the print resolutions of the
jpgs. FWIW, CMYK doesn't work on all systems, and even when it does
Word is clueless.
