cant write a document

when trying to write a document I get a srange icon that
resembles a musical note after each sentence. It is like
this in all my saved documents as well......when I open
word the musical note appears with the cursor

Should be after each paragraph, not each sentence. You get one of these each
time you press the Enter key. They don't print and most experienced users
leave the display of them turned on because they make it a lot easier to
figure out what Word is doing.

You should not be pressing the Enter key at the end of each line. If the
lines are too long, change your page margins or paragraph formatting
