Caption numbering in an Appendix

A

Ann Smith

I am using non-built-in styles for my Appendix headings, and would like to
be able to include the Appendix letter in the Figure captions, but only in
the appendices, not in the main body of the document.

I have followed the instructions given by Lukas Pietsch and Dave Rado in
"How to insert captions that include chapter numbers, in documents where
some Heading styles are not built in" from the MVP FAQ site. I am using Word
2003, SP1 and Windows XP SP2.

The problem is that the numbering is not restarting when I start a new
appendix. Each Appendix starts with the Appendix_Title style, and my field
looks something like:

Figure { STYLEREF "Appendix_Title" \s } { SEQ AppendixFigure \* ARABIC \s
"Appendix_Title" }

In Appendix B, I get something like Figure B.3, when what I actually want is
Figure B.1.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

Ann

You have to insert an \r 1 switch when you want the captions to restart, I
believe.
