Caption numbering issue

Does anyone out there happen to know how to label tables 2a, 2b, 2c,
and 2d in a series of many tables 1-50, all otherwise numbered with
just one digit? It's the sort of thing that would take about a half
minute in FrameMaker. I could, of course, renumber the whole series of
tables, but this is the way the client has numbered them (only he's
hard coded it --typed it in--and I want to do it with the Caption
command so that I can cross reference it).

It only takes about seven seconds in Word :)

Look up SEQ fields in the Help. You need two of them: one adding the
arabic, one adding the alpha. With SEQ fields, you also need one SEQ field
at the beginning of each secondary series to reset the secondary series.

Greg Maxey has a really good tutorial on them here:
http://gregmaxey.mvps.org/SEQ_Field_Numbering.htm

Alternatively, use built-in style Headings 8 and 9. Set up 9 to number 1a,
1b, 1c...and specify "Reset on higher". Set 8 to hidden font and use it to
reset 9.

Come back to me if you need more detail.

Cheers
