catalog merge problem

When I perform a merge from an excel worksheet to a catalog document (I'm attempting to create a mailing list), only every-other record (the odd numbered ones) prints although all records appear to merge correctly when I check record-by-record. When I choose print records 1-45 instead of print all, only the even numbered half of the records print .
Can anyone make a suggestion why this might be happening?

It sounds as if you've got too many «NextRecord» fields, which is causing
Word to skip every other record.
