Catalogs slow down the computer

I am creating a catalog for my company that is very large. Publisher has
become extremely slow the larger the catalog has grown. It is now to the
point that I am waiting 10-15 minutes for the timer to turn off. It is
constantly not responding. Is there anything I can do about this? I have
already split the catalog into 3 different files to see if that would help.
Some files have more pages than others, but they are all slow.

Which version of Publisher are you using? How large is the file now?

Empty your Publisher temp files. Your temporary folder maybe getting too large. In
the Windows Explorer address bar type %temp%. They also could be in the Windows temp
folder. Are your images .eps?
Large EPS graphics take longer than you expect to import in Publisher 2003

Sliding down the acceleration on your graphics adapter may help, right-click the
desktop, properties, settings, advanced button, troubleshooting tab. Look into an
upgraded video driver for your adapter by going to the manufacturer's web site.
