category field not showing anything

Help! We are trying to group projects within the project center view using
the Category and Company field. When I look at the category field in PWA it
is blank. Why is that and what do I need to do to get the information in
PWA?

In order to see the values of custom fields in PWA, you need to formally
publish the project. I know that it appears the project has been published
since the file extension for the project is ".published", but it sounds like
you haven't formally published the project yet. To publish the project,
click Collaborate - Publish - Project Plan or Collaborate - Publish - All
Information. Let me know if this helps.

Hi Dale

Thanks for the reply. I've check the publishing of the file and it looks
good. As a test, I edited the company name and category on a project file
and published the file using "All information". The edited company name was
correct but the category field remains blank. I'm totally lost here. Why
does one field update and the other doesn't?

Any help would be appreciated.

The Category field is normally used for file searching in an .mpp file
environment. If you really want to use the Company and Category fields for
Grouping in PWA, then I would recommend that you use either a custom
enterprise project Text field for each topic, or an enterprise project
Outline Code field for each topic (if you want these values to show up in
the Portfolio Analyzer views). I think that would be a much better
approach, and would save you a lot of time and frustration because it is
easier picking a Company value and a Category value from a drop-down list.
