What is the best tool to use for creating book or cd lists? I need cross
referencing also.

A database program does this well.. if you have MS Access 2003 (may well be
the same for other versions), open it and go to File - New.. a window will
open on the right side of the screen.. type 'book list' into the search
box..

You can then download from a variety of database templates..

Access would be the best tool for the job but Excel (or Works spreadsheet)
would do in a pinch.

In addition to the advice given here, I know Publisher isn't the best tool
for doing these lists. However, just as an FYI, you can create a cd
list/book list in Publisher using Publisher's built in database. If you go
to Tools > Mail and Catalog Merge > Create Address List > Customize and then
delete (or rename) the address fields, then add your own fields (Album,
Artist, Year, Track, etc.). You can then add entries and then you will be
prompted to save the file as a *.mdb file. You can filter and sort these in
Publisher and create catalog and mail merges. You could even put an Album
Cover field in the database. In that field you would put the path to the
Album cover, such as C:\My Pictures\My Music\Bon Jovi\CrushCover.jpg. You
could then do a catalog merge that will bring in all the album covers as
well.

Just an FYI :)
