In a cell, I will have a specific date, ie 28-May-2004. Now, if that date
exceeds that days date, then I would like the cell to change colour. So, for
example, if it is the 27th May, and in cell D1, the date is 26th May, I
would like the cell to change colour.

Any advice?

Thanks in advance

Use conditional formatting.

Assuming the date is in A1, select that cells.
Goto Format>Conditional Formatting
Change Condition1 to Formula Is
Add this formula
=A1>$D$1
Click Format and select a pattern colour
Exit out
