cell selection appears locked. How do I unlock it.

the cell selection option appears to be on. Each time I open a spread sheet a
hilited cell appears and as I move the curser the cell selection grows or
changes. I can't even get to the tool bar. Thanks.

Ever heard of mouse abuse?

Slap the wheel of your mouse quite hard, and you should get out of this trap.
