Cell shading will not print

Word XP using a Brother laser printer.

I have set up a table and have shaded every other row for readability - grey
shade, 5% density - but when I print the shading does not appear. I've
tried various % of shading but it never comes out.

How do I tell the printer not to ignore my shading?

In my experience, the lowest percentage of shading you can use and still see it in the
printed doc is about 30%. It's a printer thing. Try increasing shading to 30% or better
and see if that helps.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. On my particular printer
(Brother 8820D) the shading becomes visibly noticable at a glance at 12.5%
with 15-20% being ideal for my purposes.
