cell will not release cursor

I have a user that frequently has trouble with excel 2000. While editing
spreadsheets, the cursor anchors itself in a cell and refuses to release it.
When she tries to click on a different cell, it highlights the range. When
she tries to save the spreadsheet, using mouse or keyboard commands, it will
not save. She is unable to close it either.

I have reinstalled office, and even rebuilt the laptop (wiped the hard drive
and installed Win2k again), but the problem persists.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? The computer has the
basic office programs, Acrobat, Cisco VPN, like all the others in the office.
She is the only one experiencing this excel problem.

Any help is appreciated.

The things that immediately come to mind are sticky keys (the windows
feature or a faulty keyboard) and scroll lock. If a shift key is stuck
you'd get the effect described. Scroll lock won't do that in Excel 2003,
but maybe in other versions (like the 2000 in question).

To remedy, try tapping the shift keys to pop them out, or better,
replace the keyboard.
