Cellspacing in CSS?

Is there a css equivalent to Cell Spacing in HTML tables?
I tried border-spacing, but that did not seem to work although I was told
it would.

Not really - there is border-spacing, but it's not widely supported as you
discovered (you have to have created the table with the separate-borders
model). I would still just use the cellspacing attribute.
