Centering top to bottom in text box, Word 97

You don't. Even Word 2002 doesn't offer this option (though Word 2003 may?),
which you may be familiar with from Publisher, which does have it.

I should have added that you can get around this by inserting a single table
cell in the text box and using the vertical alignment command for tables.
