certificate of authenticity for office97 small business

I lost the certificate of authenticity number for my
office 97 small business edition disks. Can you tell me
how to cut through that part of the install or how to
obtain the number?

Yöu can't "cut through" anything - you need the number to install. Contact
Microsoft if you purchased this via retail - if it is OEM, you need to
contact your computer manufacturer. I doubt that either venue will yield
you the installation ID as this software is non-supported by Microsoft and
your OEM probably will balk.

I think it is hilarious that some idiot posts on this
newsgroup wanting to instal a pirate copy of word on their
computer but they don't provide a means for all the
pirates out there to tell them how to do it by not
