Change automatic spacing after punctuation?

In my Word 2007, 2 spaces are automatically inserted after punctuation (1
after a comma). I enter lab values, and these spaces are also inserted after
decimal points. It's very frustrating to go back and delete these extra
spaces. How can I make this stop?

This could be the result of an AutoCorrect entry. Click the Office
Menu>Word Options>Proofing.

Click AutoCorrect Options. Type a period "." in the replace field and see
if it pulls up and entry where a period is replaced with a perion and two
spaces ". "

If so delete the entry.

Unfortunately, there was no "." in the AutocCorrect list. Thanks for the
suggestion though.

Any other ideas?

In an earlier thread, a user insisted that she had configured the grammar
settings to produce two spaces after a period (in fact, all the grammar
checker can do is flag one or two spaces as incorrect, based on the setting
chosen by the user). It developed that she was dictating her documents using
Windows Voice Recognition, and it was automatically generating two spaces
after "full stop." It doesn't seem likely that this is your situation, but I
mention it just in case...
