change chart primary horizontal axis label or name

trying to change the display of a simple chart that shows data recorde
each year. i want to change the "1, 2, ...10" labels or names on th
primary horizontal axis for the year, but haven't figured that out.
when i introduced the year with the data, the year became plotted a
data, which distorted the meaningful data.
any advice would be helpful

Have you tried xy scatter chart. This should give you dates along the x axis. You can then change the type of graph if it isn't what you want.
