Change default distance between columns ?

Hello

Is there a way to change the default distance between columns and save
it in Normal.dot? I'd like to make the default .25 instead of .5 but
find I must do this every time I create new columns, even in the same
document.
Thanks!

You didn't mention which version of Word you are using. There doesn't
appear to be an obvious way in Word 2000. Have you considered
recording a macro and assigning it to the keyboard - rather than using
the icon on the toolbar (or even Format->Columns) to create your
columns each time?

If you frequently use columns, this will be much faster - although if
you do not have the same number of columns in each section, you will
have to go the regular route to change the number of columns ... but
at least the distance between will always be .25:) And if that
becomes a nuisance, you could always create a macro for each of the
column sets you customarily use!

Have you considered creating a template that includes
newspaper columns? The easiest way to create a template is
to use File>Save As to save an existing document, that has
the desired formatting, as a template (*.dot) file.
