change/edit the link file name

I'm changing to Vista and the old Powerpoint allowed you to change the source
file for links form Excel or other programs. I can't find where you edit the
links in Vista.

I wonder if you mean you now have PPT 2007?

In this version you need to go to Office Button > Prepare. Edit links is at
the bottom usually and you may need to scroll down. It only appears when
there are linked files.

In addition to John's excellent suggestion for triggers, you might want to
consider the Drag and Drop Macro to "drag and drop" the coins into designated
space. It does have some issues because its a macro, but once moved the
coins stay where they're dropped.
