Change Fill Color based on properties

Is there a way that I can change the fill color of a
shape, based on some assigned properties of the shape?
In particular I'd like to assign a date to a shape and
have the color of the shape change as time goes on (e.g.
less than a year old it's green; 1 to 2 years the shape
is yellow; etc).
