Change how office opens

I'd like to change how office opens documents (spreadsheets, databases...).
Instead of opening to a new blank document, I'd like the application to just
open, so I can then choose to open an existing document or start a new one.

Thanks much!

In most cases, if you open an existing document or start a new one, the default
blank one just disappears.

IOW, ignore it and it'll go away.

Thats not how the components work, if you open eg Word or Excel it will open
to a blank, the default, empty doc
Depending what version of Office, which you havent stated, there is an
option to pin, New Office Doc or Open Office Doc shortcuts to the start menu
in the setup/configeration of Office

Having listed the switches, I'm curious why you'd want that. It would be
just as simple to create a shortcut to a file instead of opening the program
with a blank then searching for a specific file. But that's just what works
for me.
