change owner of project that is using only generic resources

Roxane

Hi,

I have a project plan that only contains generic resources and I want to
change the owner of that plan. I open up project proffesional 2003, open the
plan & I go to Collaborate>Publish>Republish Assignments but I do not get the
option to change the owner.

So I try to change the owner of the plan in PWA. In the project Center view,
I select edit for the plan I want, but get the message "There are not
enterprise custom fields to edit for the project". How do I set up these
enterprise custom fields?

Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

Hi Gary,

Yes, it is an enterprise plan. I have generic resources set up in the
enterprise resources pool. All our plans use these generic resources to do
resource forecasting, but we have many different managers creating these
plans. We are not using the Project Managers Group, but are using a
different group where these managers have the permission to create & save
projects...

Roxane,

Has the project manager who going to assume ownership of the project opened
it with Project Professional selected "Collaborate>Publish>Republish
Assignments" and then ticked the box next to "Become the manager for these
assignments"?

Hi Dan,

No the project manager(s) assuming ownership have not done this yet, I
suppose when they do, their name will automatically be added to the "owner
list" in PWA, which is what I ultimately want, so that I can restrict access
to projects to only their owners. I was really looking for another way to
add these managers to the owner's list so I can force ownership on them (but
I suppose they can be done other ways).

Thanks, this will work, don't know why I didn't think of it:)

Roxane,

In addition to the steps I outlined in my original response, the Project
Server "admin" will also probably have to go change the owner from the old to
the new project manager. One way for admin to do that is to go to Projects
tab in the Project Web Access highlight the row that has the project name and
click the "edit" icon at the top and then change the "owner" field from the
old manager to the new manager. These "admin" steps should result in the new
project manager name showing up as the owner.

The steps I mentioned in my earlier note were to force approval for
timesheet entries to go to the new project manager, but then I remembered you
only had generic resources so those steps probably are not necessary until
you assign real people to the tasks.

Dan --

When you attempt to modify the Owner of the project, have you logged into
PWA with the built-in Administrator account, or are you logging in with your
own account that is part of the Administrators group? Let us know.

Dale,

I am logging in with my own account which has admin priviledges, and I can
successfully change the owner of a project via the "edit" feature on the
"Projects" tab.
