Change project owner

Despite the answers found, I think that "changing the project owner" should
be possible.

(PS : I hope that Dale Howard can influence Microsoft)

New tasks needs to arrive at the new owner because

a) the previous owner could have left the company
b) if a Programme Office prepares the initial schedule, then we do not want
to transfer the decisions of new tasks to this office, but directly to the
project manager.

What answers have you found? That the project owner can't be changed? Is it project owership that you want to change or just task ownership?

I'm pretty sure that you can change ownership of projects and/or tasks. It may take a few steps to do but I think you can get a satisfactory result. Or maybe you're looking for something more specific. Have you tried this?

For project ownership go to PWA, view the projects list, click on the row selector of a project you want to change to highlight the row (don't open the project - just select the row) then click the Edit button on the toolbar. Owner should show up as one of the fields you can change.

For task ownership you can have individual project managers open the project plan (in Project Pro) and republish selected tasks. When they do they'll be prompted to become the manager for those tasks. They should check the box and they will then get updates on those tasks.

Hope that helps.

Earl what does it mean to ....

"become the manager for those tasks" how is it different than being manager
of the project?

Thanks

J.

Earl,

Tx for the answers.
I did want to change the project owner so that the new owner gets a
notifaction when tasks are added.
I knew the option of republishing the tasks to take ownership of
changes/posting on tasks.

Now everything is under control and we can start creating "pre-tailored"
schedules from within the program office and then transfer responsibility to
the project manager.

Thanks again,
Willy

If you think of project manger = "He/She that receives updates", then it
refers to who and what was published originally and in most cases,
republished.

When you republish you can chose to perform the pub on the entire project,
current view (e.g., 'incomplete item') or for selected items (e.g., selected
tasks).

So, I could select a group of tasks and publish those. If I select the
'Become the Manager...' then updates will come to me.
Why would anybody do this? Perhaps I want to accept the updates for my
team, and you for yours? The project plan can still be managed by the
'project' project manager.

Just my observations,
Nicky D

Thanks Nicky D I believe this will be very valuable to me.

Does the Manager then have to resubmit these updates to
the Project Manager or is the Manager's acceptance of them
the final stop over before they are updated in the Project.

All,

I find this tread most interesting as it is our current plan to have the PMO
seed (create) the project and then change the owner to the real PM. If there
are any writeups on this area, please let me know.

PS: We are in Pilot status with MSP now :)
