Change text in jpg?

A jpg file...a humorous cartoon on which is txt "this is Sam" - how
can I change Sam to Fred?..use MS Word or somesuch?

You can do something like this with the Microsoft Paint program. Open a copy
of the file with paint, click on the "A" icon at the left. Open a text box
over the entire "This is Sam" sentence and enter "This is Fred". (The reason
for doing it this way is that you probably can't match the original type
face.)

Unfortunately this will leave blank space around the letters but you might
be able to fill that in so as to match the original background with the
"Paintcan" icon.

To make this an "Office"-related reply, you can do pretty much the same
thing with PhotoEd, if you still have it around.
