PPT 2000 Win XP. Is it possible to change the orientation of only one slide
among different slides in a file? If yes how can I do that?

No, that's not possible. You could link to another presentation with
different orientation. Or insert portrait content on a landscape slide and
cover the sides with black rectangles.
