Change the position of the connection points on an object

I am making a Certificate in Word - integral in the outside border are some
drawing objects and WordArt hopefully joined with connectors. I wonder if I
have to use the blue connection points or can I change these.
Also I need to make the whole page a drawing canvas unless there is another
option.
