Change the task schedule

Nikou

I am not supposed to change the start and finish date for a task. I can only
change the duration of the task and resource allocation. Now how can I change
the schedule if a task is late?

Hello Nikou,

If you want to update the start of a task that was scheduled for the
past but not started, choose Tools > Tracking > Update Project,
Reschedule uncompleted work to start after..... and set the new start
date.

This will move the start of any task to start on the date you set as
well as move any incomplete parts of tasks to the new date. Before
you use the command, make sure you have accurately updated the
tracking on all tasks.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi,

I'm sorry but when a task is late that means its finish date has changed.
If you cannot change start nor finish you cannot change duration and you
cannot indicate the task is late.
Hope this helps,

You are confusing work and duration. As Jan points out, the 'duration' of
the task is the time between its start date and its finish date. If the
duration changes it means that either the start or finish date (or both)
HAVE changed and it can't be otherwise. Work, OTOH, is the effort done by
the resource expressed in man-hours. If the task starts Monday at 8am and
finishes Friday at 5pm, with the default calendar its duration is 40 hours.
If you change the duration to some other value, at least one of the dates
MUST change. If the resource is working on that task 100% he's doing 40
man-hours of work. If you change his allocation to 50%, he's now doing 20
man-hours of work during that 40 hours of duration but the duration itself
HAS NOT changed.
