change/update office options

for office 2000
in my excel, the options for get external data have a yellow starlike icon
splashed on/over the 'new database' query etc
and those options just hang excel when invoked
so i went to reinstall just those options from the office cd/ via change
programs
but there doesn't seem to be a way to select just those options, it seems
the entire office pkg needs to be reinstalled
it seems it wants to install everything and the only options really
available is 'not available'????????
is this how this works????
