Changes from Word doc. to Wordpad

All my Word documents have been converted to Wordpad
documents, and all new Word documents get converted to
wordpad documents also. Do I have a setting that does
that? Should I re-install? I am using Word 97.

go to Start > Run and enter Winword.exe /r

That re-registers Word as the program that 'owns' .doc files.

I'm using XP Home. When I go to Run and enter
Winword.exe /r I'm told that windows can't find
Winword.exe. Would re-installing Word accomplish the
same thing? Thanks for your help.

Yes, but it's using a sledgehammer to kill a cockroach. Find the full path
to the word application and use that.
